WHAT I GOT FOR MY BIRTHDAY

Normally I really don't (personally) like videos or blog posts that talk about what people got for their birthday, but seen as for my 20th this year I got some really sweet little bits and bobs I thought I'd share them with you all! I think there's a range of presents in here so if you're in need of a bit of present inspiration hopefully this post will be able to give you a few ideas too.

As I get older I've often got a few more gift cards as presents, which is great as it means I can choose exactly what I'd like from different shops. This year I got some Cath Kidston vouchers, one for H&M and a Boots voucher too! Really looking forwards to having a little spending spree with these soon. I also got some really sweet bangles (not sure where they're from) which have little geometric patterns on a gold basic bangle. I don't own any 'grown up' style bangles so these were a nice surprise. This year I asked my parents for a couple of little presents including this Instax Mini Photo Album from Urban Outfitters (link) and a HydrateM8 water bottle (link). The photo album is something I stumbled across when web browsing UO and thought it was great for keeping all my special polaroids in one place. I'll be doing a full post on the HydrateM8 bottle in the near future but I was really fed up of my bobble bottle and fancied a change. So after seeing/hearing Hannah Maggs talk about her HydrateM8 bottle I decided to ask for one for myself.

I'm a huge fan of playing games, and I had heard of this one before getting it for my birthday. Love Letters (link) is a strategy game that is quick and fun to play for 2-4 people. It does require some memory abilities and deductive powers but it's a really great game, especially in the small portable bag it's great to take away with you. Finally I'd like to share with you my favourite present this year - my light box! After spotting these on pinterest I've been craving one for so long, and my lovely boyfriend bought me one this year. I just think they're such a great way to have a form of light in your room while also displaying positive quotes and saying (which I'm a huge sucker for anyway). This A4 Lightbox is from Oliver Bonas (link) but there's a few different places which they're available from - you can also get pastel letters for them too *places order swiftly*.

So that's some of the bits I got for my birthday this year. I'm no longer a teenager which means I'm properly getting into adulthood now *yelps*. Have you got/seen any of these bits before? Let me know in a comment below.

BOOTS AND SUPERDRUG HAUL

Yesterdat I popped into town to spend my Boots vouchers and birthday money. I decided that it was time to treat myself to see beauty bits as I haven't really bought anything like that in a while. I had a rough idea in my head of what I wanted to pick up but also may a few unexpected purchases as well.

The first thing I knew I wanted to pick up was some new shampoo and conditioner. I used these Mark Hill products before and they made me hair so lovely and smooth. I spotted that they were on offer in Boots so decided to pick them back up to hopefully get my hair back to a better condition. The next thing I thought I wanted to get was the Benefit Gimme Brow. I've actually had HD brows done for the first time today and decided it was time to pay special attention to my brows after years of leaving them to their own devices. The benefit girl tested the shade 3 on me and it's a perfect match to add a little bit of definition while still looking natural. Then she told me there was a free goody bag if  you bought 2 benefit products, so after wondering round the stall for a good while I made the choice to try the infamous Hoola Bronzer. Sadly my body shop bronzer is steadily hitting pan more and more so I was in need of a new matte bronzer in my makeup stash. This is slightly more warm toned than the body shop option however I've tried it on my skin and it really warms my pasty completion up which I'm happy with.

Next I took a trip into Superdrug because I was after some new Real Techniques Brushes to add to my collection. Since I've become very into contouring and highlighting this summer it seemed only right to add the sculpting set to my collection. I have nothing but good things to say about the RT brushes, they're always so so soft, never shed and wash like a dream! The sculpting set is priced at £20.99 which for 3 good quality brushes isn't bad at all. The set contains a setting brush, which I plan to use to set my under eye concealer, a fan brush which is perfect for pushing highlighter on the top of the cheeks and lastly a sculpting brush which I've tried using with Hoola bronzer and so far I'm happy with the results. I also picked up the Superdrug Vitamin E Radiance Moisture Cream as my daily moisturiser was running low and this was a bargain at under £3. The rings in the picture above were sale items from H&M, a bunch of simple gold midi rings that glam up any simple outfit. So that's what beauty bits I bought, let me know if you're tried any of these products or what you've picked up recently in a comment below!

LIFE UPDATE

Hi! Long time no speak. Last time I posted on here was way back in March, how time flies. I thought start getting back into the swing of things by sitting down and having a little catch up. So sit down, grab a cup of tea, and lets get talking.

So what's been happening since March? Well after the Easter holidays I went back to uni to have a week of placement preparation lectures before embarking on my first clinical block placement. I was so so nervous but ridiculously excited to put all the theory I've learnt over the past 2 years at uni into practise. I was placed in a stroke and neuro rehabilitation in a hospital. This meant I had to live away from my humble abode in Norwich for 8 weeks. The accommodation I stayed in was actually really nice as it had just been refurbished! It also gave me the chance to get to meet and know some more fellow health professionals, both from my uni and others. Towards the end of placement, the 2nd to last week to be more precise I had an unexpected trip to A&E.

I'd come back from placement and been having severe stomach cramps all day, nothing like I'd ever felt before. After ringing NHS 111 and being referred to a local doctors, I was then sent to A&E where I sat waiting for 4+ hours before finally being seen by what felt like 1 million different professionals. At around 1am on 1st June, I was admitted to hospital with appendicitis. Totally unexpected. The senior surgeon came to see me at 2am and told me I could either have surgery to remove my appendix or be sent home with antibiotics (with the risk of my appendix bothering me 20% for each year of the rest of my life). So I decided to go with the surgery. It's funny because I'm naturally a very anxious and nervous kind of person, yet I was so so calm all day waiting to go up to surgery. However definitely lying on the surgery table about to be put under anaesthetic was terrifying. 4hrs later I was back downstairs in my hospital bed, surrounded by my parents and boyfriend (who all found my drugged up rambling very amusing).

I ended up staying in hospital for a following 6 days as my appendix was so inflamed they also had to remove a tiny bit of my bowel (sorry TMI). This meant I was feeling the affects of surgery more than others who have keyhole surgery to remove an appendix do. After being discharged my dad very kindly helped back up my placement accommodation room and drove me home to Yorkshire for recovery. For around 3-4 weeks I felt so so drained and tired all the time, even by walking upstairs or focusing hard on conversations with friends. But now I'm feeling fine and dandy again! Although I do still have my nice big scar right down my tummy.

Since then I've had a mini break in London, had my 20th birthday, and sadly lost my grandad. So safe to say I've not had the smoothest of months recently. But now it's the summer holiday (although I'm going back to complete my placement late august {super exciting!}) and I'm so happy to be back blogging again. I've got quite a few posts lined up for the next few weeks at least, I'll be putting a new post up every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday! Hope you're doing well, let me know what you've been up to recently in the comments below! Lots of love xox
