Why Do I Blog? My Blogging Journey

A couple of days ago I read a post by an amazing fellow blogger Thunderlove (check out her post here) in which she spoke about the mass amount of 'blogging advice' that is thrown around the internet. PR companies, increasing traffic, and generally how to have a successful blog seem to be the big advice areas at the moment. This got me thinking about the reason I blog, and why started a blog in the first place.

I started my blog originally as MacLoverGirl96, as a side step to go along with my youtube channel (which has taken the very back seat nowadays). It seemed an obvious move, as most youtubers had a blog in which they could write posts instead of filming a video. From June 2011 up until late April 2013 my blog stayed as MacLoverGirl96, when I decided it was time for a change. Beauty Babbles was a name that popped into my head at about 11pm one night when I was in bed, and I fell in love with my blog all over again. 

Beauty Babbles has always been designed by me, and each time I redesign it I love it more and more. I find myself giving my blog a revamp when I'm feeling uninspired with it, or when I feel like it just doesn't reflect who I am anymore. There's no doubt I've changed over the past 3 years of blogging, but why I blog still remains the same. I blog because I love it. I love taking the photos for posts, and my photography skills have improved dramatically as a result. I love interacting with other bloggers, whether this is through twitter, blog comments, letters or even in real life! I love writing the posts, making sure I get my message across. I love seeing the post come together, with all its parts. I love feeling like I'm talking to a friend, whether it's about beauty or some of my advice posts (Like my moving out post here). 

Blogging has never been about making money, or having a massive audience - each new follower I get I simply appreciate that they want to read what I've created, just like when someone buys an inventors product. I'm proud of my blog, and I really hope that other bloggers feel the same way as me. The blogging community inevitably will change in the coming years, but the hopeless romantic in me will always pray that at the bottom of the blogs is passion and love for what is produced, rather than the need for money and success.

Healthy Student Food

Being an independent student for the first time, away from home with meals being ready on the table can lead to a downwards spiral of unhealthy eating. I'll hold my hands up and admit that the first couple of weeks I was at uni, my eating habits weren't great - mainly pasta/pizza as they were quick and easy. But as the days have progressed I've moved away from the carbs, trying really hard to eat healthier. To give you an idea of what I've been making I've been taking snaps of my breakfast, lunch and tea/dinner so that you can see what a putting a bit more effort into meals can result in. 

Day One 

Breakfast - Porridge with berries and honey 
Such a simple filling breakfast, porridge is really nice to have in the colder months and the berries help towards getting in your 5 a day. 

Lunch - Tuna and refined bean quesadillas 
This was my first time trying to make quesadillas but I was so pleased with how they turned out. The tuna in these is a great source of protein as well as having many other health benefits. I also threw in some spinach, getting more veg incorporated into my daily diet.  

Tea/Dinner - Chicken and courgette cous cous salad
I absolutely adore cous cous. Again with this dish I added many different vegetables; spinach, courgettes, tomatoes .... Chicken is a much less fatty meat than red meat, and without the skin reduces the fat levels even more. 

Day Two 

Breakfast - Greek yoghurt fruit bowl and nutella toast
Yes I am still trying to be healthy, but this in no way means I can't have a tiny bit of chocolate spread on a slice of brown bread. I love having yoghurt and fruit for breakfast, it really helps start my day right and obviously the more fruits you use the more health benefits you'll get. 

Lunch - Pepper and spinach omelette 
Omelettes are ridiculously easy and quick to make, and so easy to mix the recipe up with different ingredients. For this omelette I used 2 eggs, peppers, spinach and onion. 

Tea/Dinner - Pasta with sausage meatballs and broccoli 
Pasta will always be one of my favourite meals, and broccoli is one of my favourite vegetables so I was so happy when I came across this recipe. The sausage meatballs were simply made by taking the skin off the sausages then rolling the meat into little balls. 

Not only has this healthy eating kick inspired me to try new recipes and be more inventive with my cooking, but I've really felt a difference in how I feel. No more after carb-heavy lunch lulls and I generally feel more active, meaning studying is easier! In no way do I think we should cut out carbs such as pasta all together, as you can see I'm still eating it - but just doing so in a way that combines veg and other nutrients needed in a balanced diet.
