A Little Life Update

The last week has been one of the best and crazy weeks of my entire life. I moved to uni last Saturday and could not be more happy. My flatmates are so lovely and even though it's been induction week for my course I've still really enjoyed it. It has also been freshers week, which has meant some very late evenings and early mornings however I've definitely embraced the student lifestyle as much as I can (still not a heavy drinker at all!).

Food wise we had a flat Dominoes on the Saturday we all arrived which was nice to get to know everyone, plus who doesn't love pizza?! Sunday evening me and the three other girls in my flat went into town and had an amazing meal at Gourmet Burger Kitchen - I had a pesterella chicken burger with skinny fries and it was seriously one of the best meals I've ever eaten in my life. Most of the meals I've made for myself have been pasta as it's so quick and easy however I did do a food shop the other day so hopefully I'll be getting more inventive.

Societies wise I've joined a sign language one, the glee showchoir, a charity and badminton. The latter had a taster session on Friday which I really enjoyed as I'd forgotten how much I loved playing. I used to play in a local club years ago but left when I started GCSE's. It'll be great to stay active and have some stress release time.

What have you been up to lately?

September Favourites

The end of the month has been crazy busy for me, moving to uni and getting settled in but some products have still been my go to products for everyday use. First up I've been loving the Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation (which I don't think was the cause of my breakouts!) as it gives a light/medium coverage so it's perfect for everyday wear. Also face wise I've been loving the Stila Convertible Colour in Peony which is a mini size as it came in a set for my birthday, which feels like ages ago now. I'm in love with the formula of these, they're so smooth and easy to blend in. I love the formula so much that I bought the Stila Convertible Colour Palette which contains Peony and four other shades.

I've not really worn much in terms of eyes this month but when I have I've simply been using my finger to apply some of the No7 Eyeshadow in Mink just on my lids to add a bit of colour without being much effort. It's a pretty light taupe colour, and I've enjoyed using a brand other than my usuals. Seen as I did such a big lip haul a few weeks ago it was inevitable that I was going to love some of the products, and it turns out that the Maybelline Colour Elixir in Rose Redefined has come out as one of the top. These feel so smooth on the lips and the colour is again a really nice easy wearable colour for everyday (can you see a pattern emerging in the type of things I go for?!). Finally I picked up a Revlon Colourburst Matte Lip Satin in Elusive which is slightly more bright but a nice colour to wear for something a little bit more special.

Evening Skincare Routine

I spoke about my morning skincare routine here so it was only right that I told you what my evening skincare entails. Similarly to my morning routine things are kept pretty simple but the hydration levels are stepped up a notch as well as adding in some exfoliation.

Cleansing wise I use a micellar water to remove the majority of my face makeup, I'm currently using the L'oreal Skin Perfection Micellar Water however I do have the Garnier one lined up for after this one has been used up. Eye makeup wise things get removed with the Nivea Daily Essentials Makeup Remover which is a bi-phase eye makeup remover that works wonders, even on my waterproof mascara. Then I head to the bathroom where my cleansing routine continues. The Body Shop Camomile Cleansing Butter is my choice of thicker deeper cleanser, it's one I'd highly recommend if you're looking for a cheaper alternative to the Clinique Take The Day Off Balm. Rubbed onto the face this turns into a thick oil then I simply remove with a warm flannel.

Back to my skincare stash I go and grab my La Roche-Posay Micro Exfoliating Toner, another cheaper alternative I've found while sorting my skincare - this time to the Clarins Gentle Exfoliating Toner. This is a bit more stingy but helps to make my skin clear and clean. A quick first layer of hydrating comes in the form of the Avene Eau Thermale Spray followed by the same eye cream as the morning, The Body Shop Aloe Eye Defence. As I have dry/normal skin I like to add a boost of moisture to work its magic overnight and boy does the Body Shop Vitamin E Serum-in-Oil deliver. I use three drops of this and although this bottle is on it's way out I already have a backup raring to go. Then I simply hop into bed and go to sleep spend ages on social media!

Bye Bye Braces!

So I never really spoke about having braces on my blog, it's something I just wanted to get over with and so I was extremely happy when the orthodontist told me I could have my braces off a few weeks ago. The reason I needed them in the first place was because I had a overly-attached-baby-tooth who didn't want to come out naturally and so had to be forced out. The braces meant they pulled the adult tooth down quicker and made sure it didn't buge any of the others out of the way in the process.

My experience was pretty good, I got them on last October and off beginning of September. The first couple of weeks were hard eating as my teeth were very sensitive, and I will definitely not miss constantly getting food stuck in between the wires (niiice, I know!). My lovely friends were really nice about my braces and said they suit me but I'm certainly a lot more confident in my smile and when I'm laughing, which happens a fair bit when I'm around the girls. To anyone who is going to get braces, suck it up and get on with it, it's worth the wait.

Did you have braces? Or do you know if you'll have to have them?

P.S To find out the makeup I'm wearing in this post make sure you check back in October!

Morning Skincare Routine

When it comes to my morning skincare things are kept pretty simple, this is something my skin agrees with and means I don't have to worry about too much time consuming application! After I wake up I go straight to the bathroom and wash my face with the Nivea Daily Essentials Refreshing Facial Wash Gel which is a lovely simple gel that cleans the skin while not leaving it feeling stripped or dry. Nothing fancy here, apply product to face, splash with water and rub then remove with a warm damp facecloth. Then I head back into my room and spray my face with the Avene Eau Thermale Water which adds a first layer of moisture to my dry skin and is also nice and awakening when I'm a bit dreary eyed in the morning!

Only two more steps, my eyes get a dab of the Body Shop Aloe Eye Defence cream which comes in a super hyiencic and easy to use pump bottle, I pop this on my ring finger and apply under my eyes. This is lovely and cooling under the eyes and makes any makeup I apply later glide on smoothly without flaking or sinking into any lines. Final step is also a winner on packaging and something I've reviewed here a pump of indeedLabs Hydraluron Moisture Jelly to add moisture to my normal/dry skin. Another plus point of this product is it sinks into the skin quickly, another time reducing tip for my mornings.

Beauty Bloggers Excuses To Buy

The post 2 weeks ago today was about Learning To Spend Less (see here) so this Thursday I thought it would be interesting to hear some excuses that some of my favourite beauty bloggers use when buying beauty products. I'm definitely heavily influenced by offers on products and also new releases are very tempting to see what they're all about. Here's what the others had to say:

Emma // @girlwithmakeup //
'My train of thought is usually "hmm I do have a lipstick/blusher/bronzer that's similar to this but this one is slightly different... therefore I need it!'

Rachel // @rachelclaireful //
'I don't spend a lot of money going out or smoking or drinking a lot so I feel that justifies it !'

Sophie // @sophieetc //
'I definitely use my blog as an excuse "it's for review purposes!". Payday and treating myself is also an excuse for me too.'

Beth // @thegingernroses //
'If I have a special occasion coming up ... the "I know I have 8 different red lipsticks but this can be my cousin's wedding red."

Sophie // @sophiesaid //
'I like to convince myself I need new products for each new season.'

Leigh // @lilpbeauty //
'In a few weeks we will be heading into Autumn which definitely an excuse for new beauty buys.'

Sophie // @sophienoz //
'I like to justify buying beauty products if I've been working hard as a little treat to myself!'

Sophie // @bellechaton //
'Packaging plays a major part, if I see a product with cute packaging of course I need that!'

I hope you find this post interesting! Make sure you check out the bloggers in this post as I love them all and their blogs.
What are your excuses to buy?

A (Few Too Many) Lip Products Haul

Top row: Maybelline Gloss in Glorious Grapefruit, Revlon Matte Balm in Elusive, Maybelline Elixir in Alluring Coral
Bottom row: Revlon Moisture Stain in Cannes Crush, Maybelline Elixir in Fuchsia Flouis, Revlon Moisture Stain in New York Scene

So I got my braces off the other day and I was super excited about wearing bright lips. Boots didn't help with offering 3 for 2 on most brands, and I already knew I wanted to pick up some of the new lip editions to the drugstore, in particular the Revlon Moisture Stains and the Maybelline Colour Elixirs which I've been craving for since Estee swatched them on her blog yonks ago.

The Maybelline Colour Sensational Shine Gloss in Glorious Grapefruit made it's way into my basket as I've seen Anna from ViviannaDoesMakeup rave about them before, and I think I'm still denying the fact that summer is on its way out. I love the sweet scent of this as well as it being  a super wearable colour. Next up I had a wander over to my favourite brands stand at the moment, Revlon, to finally pick up one of the Revlon Matte Balm Stains in Elusive as I adore the original formula and every time my friend Sarah rocks one I subconsciously add it to my mental wishlist. Elusive is a pretty pink colour, which you will see featured in a What's On My Face sometime soon!

Onto the gloss/stain hybrids I picked up the Revlon Moisture Stains in Cannes Crush and New York Scene. Cannes Crush is an orangey pink colour and New York Scene is a gorgeous red with berry tones. I've not worn these out yet so not had a chance to test their longevity but I will get back to you on that one! However, I must say from what I've tried so far I prefer the application and feel of the Maybelline Elixirs on the lips. I find they apply more smoothly and don't feel as tacky, the colours that made their way home with me were Alluring Coral and Fuchsia Flouris

I know this may seem like a lot of lip products but I was feeling uninspired with my stash at home and was also very excited to show off my newly brace-less pearly whites with a lovely lip colour.

Have you tried any of these?

An Instagram Update

80's Party / Basking in the Sun / Latest Purchases

 A Bargain / Yummy Mochi / A Lustful Purchase

Results Night / Cute Colander / Late Night Blogging

A little update from me, the last couple of weeks have been quite busy. I got my top place at Uni and so my time is now spent between sorting uni stuff, shopping and working. I spent a couple of days a few weeks ago in the town I'm going to be moving to so I could get my bearings, that's where I tried the mochi ice cream in Wagamamas. I've also been picking up lots of stock up products in preparation for becoming a student! Finally I've been spending time with my amazing friends in the last couple of weeks before we all move on to new and wonderful places.

High School and Growing Up

Something slightly different today, but something I wish I had read when I was starting/during high school. I start university in less than a month so I thought this would be a great time to write this as a goodbye to my high school life. I hope this post is interesting/insightful or helpful to someone out there.

High School Won't Be Perfect

When I went into 'big school' I had this image in my head of making lots of new friends and hanging out with them all the time, happiness and closeness of everyone. My personal experience was very different to this, I really struggled to find a really close 'best friend' and flitted from one group of friends to another because I was searching for that magical group I had in my head. Turns out I didn't find this until my 6th form years.

In 2013 studies found that 46% of children had been bullied in some for at school. I was bullied during my high school years, but looking back it's made me so much stronger and a better person. It will be hard, and it will get you down but just remember that you are an amazing person and don't let the bully beat you.

People Change

You will change. The person you are when you start high school will be completely different to the person you are when you collect your GCSE or even A Level results. I know I've changed, for the better. People you know will change and you may not like that. You will drift away from people you used to be close to, but that's ok because that's life.

Deciding Your Future

Teachers will tell you that what you choose for GCSE's are important. In hindsight, they're really not. You could take any GCSE's and still go on to have the possibility of doing any university/college course you choose. A Level choices are more important as certain uni courses have specific subjects as entry requirements. Also, don't worry if you still don't know what you want to do when you grow up. I didn't know the path I wanted to follow until January last year.

It Gets Better

High school may be hard work, it may make you sad, scared, or lonely, but believe me, it gets better! The last two years in sixth form, which is technically high school have been the best two years at school so far. And I am super nervous about going to university but I'm looking forwards to a new experience.

What was/is your high school experience like?

Foundation Rotation

Up until the beginning of this year I used one foundation and one foundation only because I didn't think I could find anything else, so now fast forwards to recently, I've been switching between three foundations which I'm going to tell you about today.  All three are drugstore with a slight variation in price so hopefully there's one in here for everyone.

L'oreal True Match in N1

My first liquid foundation love. I've raved about this foundation before, it's medium coverage which still manages to look skin like. This stays put on my skin really well and will always be a staple in my foundation drawer. With the thickest formula of the three this helps to hide any redness/blemishes on my skin which is always helpful.

Preferred Application ; Beauty Blender

Brownie Points For ; Super staying power + Satin finish

Perfect For ; When you know you'll be wearing foundation for a long amount of time

Price ; £9.99

Revlon Nearly Naked Foundation in 110 Ivory

I wanted to try this foundation for ages but always held off as I never thought the lightest colour would match my skin but when I swatched it one day in Boots I found that it blends really easily, meaning I suited the lightest shade (which is what I gravitate towards first!). I've done a review on this foundation recently which you can read here but in summary this is a light coverage foundation which gives a dewy finish and looks incredibly natural on the skin.

Preferred Application ; Beauty Blender

Brownie Points For ; The invisible-ness of the foundation

Perfect For ; A flawless dewy light finish

Price ; £8.99

Rimmel Match Perfection in 010 Light Porcelain

My most recent foundation edition which I picked up in Superdrug for a bargainous price of £4.99. This foundation is the palest of the three so worth a try if you're even paler than me. There is a slight sweet scent to this foundation but nothing off-putting, although if you have sensitive skin it may not agree. If L'oreal True Match and Revlon Nearly Naked had a baby, this would be it. Still light in coverage but offers more than R.N.N yet has the staying power of L.T.M. This has been the one I've grabbed for recently but I change foundation depending on the occasion/what I'll be doing.

Preferred Application ; Fingers

Brownie Points For ; The ease of application

Perfect For ; When you have a limited amount of time to apply your makeup

Price ; £6.99

What are your favourite foundations?
