We're going down under today to hear from Australian blogger Lena over at Sleep and Water whose blog is so stunning, and she's always a big enabler for me! Make sure you check out her blog after you've heard a bit about her first.
1. What started your love for makeup?
It's hard to pinpoint a specific reason or trigger as my interest in makeup was more a slow, gradual process that started intensifying two or three years ago. I'd always enjoyed playing around with makeup but didn't wear too much of it until I graduated from university and began working full-time. There's something fascinating about the power of makeup to transform your appearance right in front of your eyes which I think is a large part of why I'm drawn to it. I also love all things colourful and attractively packaged!
2. Which brands are unavailable/hard to get hold of in Australia that you wish you could get your hands on?
I think the main problem with living in Australia is that makeup is relatively expensive compared with the US/UK, rather than extremely difficult to get a hold of. There are brands that I normally have to buy online or when I'm on holidays overseas like Tarte, Urban Decay and Make Up For Ever.
3. What is your favourite thing to blog about?
For me, blogging is easiest and most enjoyable when it's on a topic that I'm enthusiastic about (whether it be in a positive or not so positive way). I do like compiling the occasional post about disappointing products, tag posts are always fun to read and participate in if I resonate with the questions, or sometimes I'll simply want to rave about my my latest favourite discovery.
4. Which five beauty products could you not live without?
Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser, NARS Creamy Concealer, Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner, Benefit Sugarbomb, NARS And God Created the Woman Eye Palette.
5. How did you come to creating your blog?
It's not a particularly exciting story. Truthfully, I was bored one day and decided creating a blog would be a good way to combine my interests in photography, writing and beauty products. I was just starting to really get into makeup and a few beauty blogs I stumbled upon around that time also inspired me to start my own.
6. Are you influenced by any other bloggers? If so who?
I'm more influenced in terms of purchasing hyped products from other bloggers, especially from successful, popular blogs like Essiebutton and ViviannaDoesMakeup, than in terms of the content or organisation of my blog. I do think invariably, most bloggers are influenced to differing degrees by the prevailing preferences and customs of beauty blogging that drive popular content and a larger readership. For that reason, beauty blogs can appear a little "samey", but having said that, I feel as long as content is delivered in a genuine and helpful way, everyone has something unique and valuable to contribute, even if we're talking about the same things.
7. What is your everyday/go to makeup look?
Neutral eyeshadow, black eyeliner on the upper lashes applied with a felt tip pen, pencil bronze or taupe eyeliner applied to bottom lash line, mascara, light to medium coverage foundation, peachy or pink blush. Sometimes I'll also apply bronzer, highlighter and powder.
8. Where do you imagine yourself in 5 years time?
Hard to say! Hopefully more of an "adult" than I feel right now in terms of my career and personal life. To be honest, I doubt I'll be still beauty blogging in 5 years, but who knows!
Thanks to Lena for answering my questions, I still hope you are enjoying this series! I feel like I've been on holiday to many different places although I've not been anywhere! Tune in next Sunday when we will speak to a blogger who has been to many different countries and recently studied a year abroad so that should be a good one.
